Wellingborough man hits out after daughter, six, not put in car seat by social services

The parent, who we are not naming to protect the identity of his child, has criticised the social worker for their actions when she was in temporary care.

He says his daughter, who was six years old at the time of the incident earlier this year, was strapped into the seat with no form of child booster seat.

The angry father said: “My daughter was in temporary care and was often picked up by a social worker.

“One worker just did not put her in any form of car seat, my daughter told me and I witnessed it as well.

“Social services said she was newly-qualified but that’s not good enough. They just gave her a leaflet.

“Surely everyone knows about the rules, let alone social services.”

Under UK guidelines, children must normally use a child car seat until they’re 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first.

A county council spokesman said all staff are told to adhere to legal requirements.

The spokesman said: “We are unable to comment on individual cases.

“However, all our staff are instructed to adhere to both the legal requirements and the Health and Care Professions Council guidelines regarding the transportation of children.”
