Week of community action in Northampton district starts this Saturday

A week of community focus events including self-defence classes and crime mystery workshops will start this Saturday (April 1) in one Northampton district.

Residents in the St David's area, Kingsthorpe, have been invited to join the week of action organised by the Northampton Community Safety Partnership.

New events will run every day from April 1 - 7, including dog microchipping for £3, street football and a community litter pick.

Budding young detectives can help Northamptonshire Police solve a case as part of a crime mystery workshop and a self-defense class will be held at St David's Church, in Kingsland Close, East Avenue South.

Councillor Anna King, cabinet member for community safety and engagement at Northampton Borough Council, said: “The focus for the week is helping people to stay safe and healthy so there are loads of different activities where people can come along to get advice or just have some fun.

“We’ve held weeks of action in other areas and it’s a really good way to bring communities together. I hope that everyone who lives in the St David’s area will get involved.”

April 5, midday - 4pm, St David's Church: Science, sports and self-defence day for young people, plus free bike maintenance

April 6, St David's Church Rooms: Youth crime mystery event, open to 8 - 12-year-olds. Solve a crime with Northamptonshire Police

April 7, 7.30pm - 9pm, St David's Church: Self-defence sessions

The St James residents association will also be held at the Liburd Community Hub, in Whilton Road, Kingsthorpe, at 7pm on April 13.
