The production features four motorcyclists speeding at over 60mph inside a steel cage for 'The Globe of Death.' It is the first circus to feature the event on stage.

A Cirque Berserk! spokeswoman said: "This is a show that brings the familiar family circus bang up to date, styled for 2017 and brought indoors to comfy regional theatres. Great for everyone from 7 years to 97."

Northampton's shoe-making expertise will soon feature on-stage, as Cirque Berserk! Argentinian Gabriel Carmona, who performs a tango dance with swinging fire bolas, will act in custom-made boots from the Tricker's shoe's factory.

Today, the tango-dancer was measured for his new boots at the factory in St Michael's Road and is set to pay thanks to the shoe-makers in a section of his routine.

Mr Carmona said: "My boots have to be more than perfect fit. They must protect my feet as well as look authentic. They are very special, so when I heard I could get some made at this factory, I was delighted and relieved."

Cirque Berserk! will run for a week at the Royal & Derngate theatre between March 14 and 18.
