Albino squirrels are extremely rare and their white colour is due to gene mutations that affect the production of pigmentation.

There are believed to be fewer than 100 albino squirrels in the UK.

Ms Barnard said: “At first I thought it was a cat with white fur but then I realised it was a squirrel.

“I have never seen anything like it. When I got home I Googled information about them and I realised how rare they are.”
