Northampton MP Michael Ellis has officially opened a new Burger King restaurant in the town centre.
The Conservative politician donned a Burger King shirt and cap and took a turn on the till on the opening day of the new fast food outlet, which is situated in the former Eastgate pub site in Abington Street.
The 136-seater restaurant, which is run by Sukhi Panesar who also owns the Burger king in the Market Square, has created 30 new jobs in the town.
Mr Ellis said: “I’m delighted to officially open this new business in Abington Street.
“For me the priority is to support all new businesses and business people in the town.
“This is a new venue in the town centre and will create a number of new jobs and that can only be a good thing.
“We do want to see a variety of business in the town centre but cafes and restaurants have their part to play.”
Mr Ellis said he did “occasionally” eat in Burger King and enjoyed a double cheeseburger but not too often as it “wasn’t very good for his waist-line”.
Mr Panesar, who is also planning to open a new Burger King in the Weston Favell Centre, said he hoped the new restaurant would benefit from the University of Northampton moving its campus to the town centre.
