Matthew Hunt, also known for his performance on Britain’s Got Talent as his alter ego Musical Ruth, was among a number of acts to entertain shoppers in Market Square over the weekend.
The performances were all part of the national Love Your Market Day, which saw 1,000 markets across the country to take hold events to highlight the importance they play in the heart of communities.
Musical Ruth was joined by other comedy acts, the Balloonatics, The Wardens and the Fairly Fresh Fish Co.
Northampton Borough Council’s markets team were also stationed in the market office, located near The Auctioneers pub, in a bid to sign up new stallholders.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Our market is an asset to the town and we hope people will come along on Saturday and join in the celebration.”
Musical Ruth failed to make it past the audition stages of the Britain’s Got talent audition, receiving three buzzes from the judges of the ITV show.
However Mr Hunt did win over the crowd on the show by giving comedian David Walliams a lift on his electric powered moving piano.
