An investigation has been launched after fire broke out in a football clubhouse.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at the home of AFC Rushden & Diamonds as well as Wellingborough Town FC in London Road, Wellingborough, just after 4am today (Monday).
A statement from AFC Rushden & Diamonds said: “The club can confirm that the fire brigade attended a fire in the clubhouse at the Dog and Duck last night.
“The fire is currently under investigation and the club will advise further when more information is available.”
Club official for Wellingborough Town FC Simon Cox said: “We were alerted this morning by the police following the incident in the early hours of this morning which has seen the loss of bar stock, television and audio equipment, club memorabilia and furniture inside the clubhouse.”
Mr Cox said the clubhouse has been extensively damaged by smoke and internal walls have been damaged.
He added: “We have also been working with officials from AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Northants Police and Northants Fire to ensure the ground is safe and secured as best as possible in the current circumstances and to ensure that football will be played at The Dog & Duck in the near future.
“We would like to thank everyone for all their messages of support this morning and the support of our club volunteers and officials from AFC Rushden & Diamonds who were all in attendance this morning to assist with the situation.
“At the moment, we are unaware of the exact reason as to how the fire started.”
