UPDATE: Elderly woman in her eighties found dead following flat fire at Northampton care home
A woman has died following a flat fire in Northampton, which plays host to people aged 65 and over, a resident confirms.
Firefighters were called shortly before 10.45am on Tuesday, December 27 following reports of a smoke alarm sounding and smoke coming out of a ground floor flat in Nazarana Court, an Asian elderly sheltered scheme on Semilong Road.
The resident, who does not wish to be identified, told the Chron that an investigation is underway and cannot make further comment.
The woman aged in her 80s was found dead at the scene of the blaze, which is not being treated as suspicious by police.
Two fire crews from Moulton, one from The Mounts and one from Mereway attended the incident along with Northamptonshire Police and the East Midlands Ambulance Service.
Housing & Care 21, a national provider of retirement housing and care services, have been approached for further comment.
A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire fire and rescue confirmed the address yesterday (Wednesday, December 28).
