Two wooden knights to return to Northampton town centre for In Bloom celebrations

To complement the displays of baskets and planters in the town centre, two of the popular Wooden Knights, who appeared in an exhibition last summer, have returned and two floral cyclists will be placed in the town centre on July 5.

In total there are 80 large hanging baskets which have been placed on lamp posts, 44 jardinière stands (3 tiered planters) and over 200 hanging baskets, sponsored by local business and displayed across the town.

Alongside the town’s entry into East Midlands in Bloom, there have already been more than 55 entries into the borough council’s own Northampton in Bloom competition, which has categories for schools, community groups, businesses and private gardens.

Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for the environment, Alan Bottwood, said: “Northampton in Bloom has inspired communities to come together and exhibit a wide range of beautiful floral displays across the town. The standard of competition entries this year is very high and there are some lovely floral displays which can be seen across the town.”

Northampton in Bloom is co-ordinated by Northampton Borough Council with partners from Enterprise Ltd, K & J Hird Ltd, Moulton College and several community groups and schools.

The East Midlands in Bloom judges will visit Northampton on July 5 when they will be given a tour of the beautiful floral displays, parks, gardens, allotments and open spaces across Northampton Town.
