Two food festivals due to be held in Northamptonshire this weekend

Northamptonshire’s annual foodie festival begins at today at Holdenby, offering shows, stalls and plenty of fresh food to all visitors.

The Northamptonshire Food Show @ Holdenby House in Holdenby, near Northampton, will this year celebrate its eighth year, enticing visitors with take-away food and drink stalls, arts and crafts stalls and shows from celebrity food experts, as well as tours around Holdenby House and gardens.

From 10am-5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, there will be opportunities to sample and buy a variety of locally produced goods, as well as attend talks and demonstrations by Warner Edwards, of Warner Edwards gin distilleries, and celebrity chef, Sophie Grigson.

Other entertainment will include falconry displays, garden tours, firing displays and living history shows from The Earl of Essex’s Regiment of Foote, recounting Holdenby’s history as the prison of King Charles I.

Admission prices are £7.50 (adult), £6.00 (concession), £3.50 (child) and £18.00 for family tickets of 2+2.

Today (Saturday) will also see the return of the Towcester Sausage and Cider Festival to Towcester Racecourse, offering 44 ciders and an array of locally produced sausages.

The day’s menu features three ciders from Northamptonshire and three from Milton Keynes, as well as a selection of local real ales for non-cider-drinkers.

The sausages, which include creative vegetarian and internationally inspired options, are all handmade by Wellingborough-based Brown’s Gourmet Sausages.

Throughout the day, which runs from 12 noon-12 midnight, there will be a main stage featuring a line-up of bands and an acoustic stage will also be set up at the main bar.

Entry costs £5 for adults and is free for under 18s.
