Tributes paid to four friends from Northampton after car crash tragedy

The accident happened on the A420 near Swindon at about 11.15pm. Three other people were seriously injured in the head-on collision.

The four have not yet been formally identified by the police but they have been named widely on social media.

Tributes have been pouring in since the news of the tragedy emerged yesterday.

One comment said: “Words cannot describe the loss this town is feeling. We’re all here taking care of each other though, and I’m sure you are doing the same wherever you are. Things will never be the same, we will miss your beautiful faces til the end of time. RIP to the loveliest people I know. LOVE to you all xxx”

Another added: “We’re sat here talking about you - we all agree you’re actually better than us which is why you’ve gone to a better place. We’ll miss you but we’ll catch up one day. Until then RIP. X”

Another tribute said: “Well gutted and my thoughts go out to all those close to them and had the pleasure to meet you guys- truly beautiful souls with the best outlook on life. Can’t put it into words R.I.P”

Earlier today, police appealed for any witnesses to the accident to contact them.

Thames Valley Police said that at 11.15pm a black Mercedes and a blue Citroen Saxo collided between the Watchfield roundabout and the Highworth turn off.

The Citroen Saxo was travelling towards Oxford while the Mercedes was travelling in opposite direction when the two vehicles collided head-on.

A spokesman for Thames Valley said this afternoon: “It is believed they were living in the Northampton area. The deceased have not yet been formally identified.”

The three occupants of the Mercedes, the male driver, a female passenger in her 30s and a three-year-old boy were all taken to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford where they are being treated for their injuries, which are not, at this stage, believed to be life-threatening.

Det Sgt Gavin Collier, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Bicester, said: “This was a terrible incident in which four young people have lost their lives.

“We would urge anyone who was driving in the area last night and saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision to get in contact as they may have information which could help us with our investigation into the circumstances which led up to this tragic collision.”
