Emergency services have already dealt with a string of incidents on the A14 and a lorry smash on the M1 in Northamptonshire on Monday morning as Sunday's snowfall turned to ice overnight.

A slow thaw is forecast for later, but Police are still appealing for drivers to take care while making essential journeys.

A Force spokesman said: "The A14 remains incredibly treacherous on Monday morning and with temperatures remaining low all day this is unlikely to improve quickly.

"The message remains the same “Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives."

"If you do need to make that essential journey today, please take extra care on the roads. Even once the snow starts to melt, it will still leave lots of standing water.
