Chron reader @pro_bungee on Twitter said: “Driver told me they’ve finished shift and as buses out of sync they’ve just parked up.”

Another Twitter user Adam Chivers said: “When will someone do something? It’s chaotic up there! Drivers standing around doing nothing!”

Stagecoach Midlands has said the delays are a knock on effect from the closure of the M1 in Northampton this morning, adding that drivers needed rest breaks once they reached their allocated driving time.

@StagecoachMids tweeted: “Due to M1 closure, had a knock on effect, delaying bus which are out of sync. We’re trying to put this right.”

The company added: “We have controllers and managers on site working on this.”

Stagecoach said the situation has now eased in The Drapery, with issues lasting for a ‘short period of time’.

The M1 was closed northbound from junction 16 to 18 this morning following a crash between a car and a lorry during which one man died.

The closure caused long delays on many surrounding roads in the area.
