“They have maintained the very high standards that were achieved last year with excellent results in English and mathematics.

“Following the impressive results for our A Level students last week, we feel that 2016 is a bumper year for Abbeyfield Students.”

Nationally the amount of pupils receiving a C or above has fallen by 2.1 per cent.

The falls are in part due to new government policies that meant 17-year-olds who got a D or lower in English or maths last year had to resit the exams, meaning more students overall were sitting the tests.

Other top marks at Abbeyfield included Hannah Dolan, an A* three As, four Bs and a C and Joanna Wickam who got three A*s and six As.
