A man who carried out a vicious assault on a man who was asleep in his car at Santa Pod drag racing track in Northamptonshire has been jailed.
Jody Recci, 32, of Simmons Close, Tamworth, Warwickshire, smashed through the windscreen of the vehicle in the early hours of Sunday, 5 July, and started attacking the occupant.
Another occupant of the car shouted at him to stop and Recci left.
The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for a gash to his head, a broken nose, broken tooth and a fracture to his hand.
Recci was later arrested and charged with the attack.
He pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm and criminal damage. He told the court he had used a wooden pole rather than a metal bar which witnesses had described seeing.
He was jailed for a total of four years at Luton Crown Court today (Tuesday).
Detective Constable Surinder Ram, who investigated, said: “This was a horrific attack on a defenceless man who had been asleep in his car after a night drinking with friends at the location.
“The victim suffered serious injuries and this case should show how seriously the police and courts take such behaviour.
“There can be no justification for using such violence and we will continue to work hard to protect our communities and bring offenders to justice.”
