Thousands set to descend on Northamptonshire village for annual scarecrow festival

A Northamptonshire village will be home to hundreds of straw-stuffed citizens this weekend for a yearly scarecrow festival.

The 21st annual Harpole Scarecrow Festival returns this Saturday and Sunday (September 8 and 9) and is aiming to break its fundraising record.

The yearly event helps raise funds for local charities and projects and will see dozens of residents prop their homemade characters on their front lawns.

Visitors can expect to see an Elvis Presley tribute, American inspired street food, cocktails and prosecco, Ukulele and circus skills workshops, pony rides, quad bikes, netball and craft activities.

This year’s theme is based on 21st-century books and the annual scarecrow trail will be celebrating the centenary of the first world war.

The festival has supported dozens of local projects over the years such as playing equipment and a replacement mower for Harpole playing fields.

Entry to the festival, which includes a brochure and trail route, is £2.50. Children under 16 go free.

All proceeds go to Harpole Village fundraising projects as well as local charities.
