More than 2,000 people packed into Northampton’s Market Square for the town’s first ever official Chinese New Year celebrations.
Traditional Chinese entertainment included displays of dragons, lanterns and martial arts and there were also a number of food stalls showcasing a range of southeast Asian cuisine.
Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for a celebration of our town’s rich and varied culture. The Chinese community was thrilled to be able to stage the event and they put on a real show for us all.
“Thousands of people came into town for the event, which will have had a positive knock-on effect for the local economy.”
The event was organised by Northampton Borough Council and sponsored by Aspers Casino.
