Tests due on body found in Northampton churchyard

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of a man found dead in the churchyard at St Giles Church in Northampton.

Police received a call at 7.44am this morning from a member of the public.

The identity of the man is still unknown, police have said, although he is believed to be someone aged between 30 and 40 years of age.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police this afternoon said: “Police can confirm, following the discovery of the body of a man this morning, that a forensic post mortem examination will take place at Leicester Royal Infirmary later this afternoon.

“The unidentified man, found in St Giles Churchyard at around 7.45am, is described as white, between 30 and 40, of stocky build and was wearing casual clothing.

“Police remain at the scene while investigations continue. A further update will be provided following the post mortem.”
