Teenager stabbed following ‘altercation’ at University of Northampton student union bar

A 19-year-old man was stabbed at a bus stop outside the student union bar in Northampton in the early hours of this morning.

The teenager was stabbed followed an altercation that took place at the University of Northampton student union bar.

The victim was involved in an incident at the bar on Boughton Green Road, sometime between 3am and 3.10am this morning (Wednesday).

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “He left the bar, at which point there was a further altercation at the bus stop.

“At which point the victim was stabbed in the shoulder.

“He was taken to University Hospital Coventry. The injuries were not life threatening.”

The offender is described as black, wearing a blue parka coat with fur around the hood and a baseball cap.

Michael Ellis, MP for Northampton North, said: “I’m deeply concerned about this. I have spoken to the vice chancellor and they are reviewing the incident and reviewing security.”

A spokesman for the university said: “We are aware of an incident which took place on campus and is fully assisting the police with their investigations.

“The University of Northampton and the University of Northampton’s Students’ Union have a zero tolerance approach to incidents of knife crime on campus or in the wider community.”
