Northampton Borough Council wants to hear the issues that affect people the most in to the town as part of an annual investigation.

Every year Northampton Borough Council’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee invites people to submit their ideas for issues and topics that should be looked into.

A spokeswoman said: “This is an opportunity for people to put a spotlight on the issues that matter to them.

“In the last year the committee has held in-depth reviews on three major issues affecting people in Northampton. They have been looking at poverty, litter and cleanliness, and domestic abuse. These were all ideas submitted by residents and helped bring attention to three important topics.

“With the three investigations being concluded the committee is asking members of the public to come forward with ideas for the next year of work,” she added.

The committee investigate any issue affecting residents or the town, and ideas do not even need to be related to borough council services.

Councillor Jamie Lane, chairman of Northampton Borough Council’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee said: “This is your chance to have the Committee look into the things that are important to you. It could be something that affects your street, your neighbourhood or even the whole town.

“Part of our role our committee is to get to the bottom of issues people want investigated. We want to hear from you and get your ideas about the issues that are important to you.

“We can bring in experts and talk to the organisations who are responsible for delivering services. So I would encourage anyone who has an unanswered question to come forward and let us find out the answers for you.”

The committee can only consider issues that affect groups, in areas where the council involved but not being directly dealt with by another committee. The committee cannot consider any issue that it has investigated within the last year.

The committee will look at all ideas and suggestions before deciding which deserve a full investigation. A full investigation involves the Committeeholding public meetings and asking members of the public as well as specialists to discuss the issue before producing a report with recommendations for the appropriate organisation(s).
