Engineering student Matthew Quincey is in pole position for an exciting career in F1 racing after landing an apprenticeship with world champions Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP).
The 18-year-old is studying a BTEC Level Three in engineering at Northampton College and won the role as part of a tie-in with the Brixworth-based power unit manufacturer.
Matthew said: “Receiving the placement with Mercedes was such a confidence boost. Working as part of a team creating F1 engines is incredible, it’s the dream really, and I have definitely found my true calling in engineering.
“My work ethic has changed so much since coming to Northampton College and I feel honoured that HPP think I am worthy of working for them.”
He will start his apprenticeship after completing his qualifications.
There were 500 applicants for the apprenticeship scheme, with seven being taken on.
