The stray mum was spotted in Becket's Park on Sunday (August 19) close to the Morrison's car park.

But realising the homeless moggy could have kittens, she contacted the Northampton Cats Protection who sent a nearby welfare fieldworker to the park.

A spokeswoman for CPL said: "After a search with the lady close to where the cat was first seen, puss was spotted with kittens and she came running over as food was offered.

"She was easily coaxed into a carrier, and the kittens picked up and all taken into Cats Protection’s care."

Now in care, the rescuers have named the mother cat Becket, and her two kittens Morrison and Victoria.

A spokeswoman said: "It really is wonderful when the public keep their eyes open for cats in trouble. Northampton Cats Protection will always do their very best to help. We are a voluntary organisation and all the volunteers give freely of their time and experience to helping as many cats as possible."
