Stonewall, the national campaigning and lobbying charity for the lesbian, gay and bisexual community, has placed St Andrew’s Healthcare 34th in its list of Top 100 gay-friendly workplaces.
The charity is the second highest ranking healthcare provider in this year’s list rising more than 60 places from last year and higher than many international companies and organisations. Stonewall assesses organisations on a variety of criteria including employee training, career development and anonymous staff feedback.
A spokesman said: “St Andrew’s is committed to recognising the equality needs of our staff and patients and prides itself on inclusive policies. In the past year the Charity has continued to strength policies and embraces changes in the law to bring equality to marriage and the rights of partners.”
Dr Fiona Mason, chief medical officer, said: “We are delighted that Stonewall has recognised our commitment to promoting equality and the active steps we have taken for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff”.
Simon Feeke, Stonewall director of workplace programmes, added: “St Andrew’s Healthcare and every single employer who secured a position on the Stonewall Top 100 Employers 2015 list performed remarkably this year. Competition has never been fiercer and the new criteria this year has pushed all of the Top 100 to work harder than ever before”.
