The proposal, which was lodged with Northampton Borough Council last week, appears to mix up the town with the city in the East Midlands.

The planning statement, put together by Birmingham-based Brooke Smith Planning Consultants Ltd, details a multi-million pound scheme to redevelopment Sol Central in Northampton town centre.

Palace Capital, the new owners of Sol Central, are hoping to get permission to to convert the former Gala Casino site, which takes up units on all three floors, into restaurant use.

It is hoped the redevelopment will help attract more visitors to the site, which currently includes a Vue Cinema, an Ibis hotel and a Fitness for Less Gym.

However, the author of the report appears to have mixed up Northampton with Nottingham a number of times in the planning statement.

The statement reads: “It has been considered that Sol Capital is in need of modernisation/redevelopment to keep in line with the wider regeneration of Nottingham.

“Increasing the leisure offer within the complex will increase the visitor numbers which has the potential for knock-on benefits for nearby local businesses; it will also attract tourists and visitors from nearby areas, bringing more people to Nottingham and further benefitting Nottingham’s retail and leisure trade.”

A spokesperson for Palace Capital said: “These are potentially exciting times for Sol Central and for Northampton as since Gala and Marston’s vacated in 2011 footfall has been adversely affected.

“Palace Capital will give it a fresh impetus and improving the eating out experience.”
