Sixty jobs at risk at University of Northampton

A total of sixty university staff in Northampton have been informed they are at risk of redundancy as part of plans to switch to the new Waterside Campus.

The move was decided a number of weeks ago and has nothing to do with last week’s Brexit vote.

It will see 60 people apply for 48 positions, some of which will absorb other roles. As a result, 12 people will lose their job.

Human resources director Deborah Mattock said: “The University is reviewing its structure to replace our current six academic schools with four new faculties, which will be in place from August 2016.

“As we move into the new model, the University is proposing the creation of 48 new posts across the institution.

“There will be some existing roles that do not map into the new structure, and as a consequence some staff have been placed at risk of redundancy.”

All the new posts have been evaluated to ensure appropriate pay and reward, the university said.

A spokeswoman said: ““We value our staff, and we have not taken this decision lightly.

“We are working with the unions and consulting with the post holders affected and the HR team is supporting staff during this period of change.

“Every effort will be made to redeploy affected staff to the new roles where possible.”
