Six arrested and 40 vehicles seized in '˜fatal four' crackdown in Northamptonshire

More than 100 road traffic offences were recorded as part of a bid to reduce the number of ‘fatal four’ driving offences.

The arrests, which included one for possession of a Class A drug, came as part of Operation Journey, led by the joint Safer Roads Team.

PC Dave Lee, from the Safer Roads team, said: “Operation Journey has already involved a range of focused days of enforcement activity in individual towns within Northamptonshire, but Monday’s event was more widespread; involving officers across the entire county.

“We do believe that taking a strong stance on ‘fatal four’ offences will inevitably prevent potential collisions from happening. The operation is also beneficial as often drivers have been stopped for a suspected driving offence and this has led to other crimes being uncovered.

“We have many more similar, co-ordinated enforcement days planned within Northamptonshire, as we continue our work to keep the public safe from harm.”

The results of the operation, in full, were:

* 117 traffic offences identified and dealt with

* 16 offences of mobile phone use while driving

* 12 offences of failure to wear a seatbelt

* 22 vehicles seized for no insurance

* 12 vehicles seized for no tax

* 13 cases of expired MOT.

The Joint Safer Roads Team is made up of representatives from Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service. The operation also included Safer Roads Specials, Local Response Officers and Cross Borders Police.
