A service to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day will be held at All Saints’ Church in Northampton at 2pm on Friday, May 8.
The service will be attended by town dignitaries and representatives of the Royal British Legion Northampton branch.
Members of the public are welcome to attend but asked to be seated by 1.45pm.
At 3pm there will be a two minute silence in the memorial gardens behind All Saints’ to coincide with the national silence that marks the moment Winston Churchill broadcast his historic speech formally announcing the end of the war.
Phil York, chair of the Royal British Legion Northampton branch, said: “We are looking forward to attend the service on May 8 as it gives us the chance to commemorate the brave service personnel who returned from WWII, but most of all to remember those who didn’t make it home.
“This year being the 70th anniversary, the legion hopes that relatives and the public will come and help us to celebrate and commemorate these brave people.”
