Section of road near Northampton primary school to be closed for two weeks

From Monday, the junction of Trinity Avenue and Homestead Way will be shut and a diversion will be put in place.

The road closure is needed to improve access for parents and pupils of the new primary school at Malcolm Arnold Academy. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

The highways improvements will see widening of a section of Kingsley Road to create a dedicated left turn lane, widening of the footpath and a new pedestrian island in Trinity Avenue and enhanced crossing facilities in Homestead Way.

County council deputy leader Councillor André Gonzalez de Savage said: “These improvements will not only benefit parents and pupils of the new primary school, but also improve traffic flow for those at the existing Malcolm Arnold Academy and local residents and road users.

“The temporary road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the workforce and the general public. However, we’ve planned the work to take place during the summer holidays to minimise disruption and we expect it to be completed in time for the start of the new school year.”

Funding for the scheme has been provided by the David Ross Education Trust, which will run the new school.
