Volunteers and supporters of the charity, Alfe’s Cause, were joined by staff at Sainsbury’s in Northampton to see how far they could cycle on machines in eight hours at the Grosvenor Centre store.

In the end, they totalled 600kms, the equivalent of cycling to Paris.

The event was held to raise awareness about how far some families have to travel with their sick child for Proton therapy, which is not available in the UK.

Alfe, now aged 11, from Duston, was diagnosed with B Cell NonHodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009 and has been raising money for fellow sufferers ever since.
