A Rushden company is celebrating after being named the men’s mainstream brand of the year at a prestigious industry awards.
Steptronic was only founded in Rushden in 2009, but it is already making its mark in the world of footwear among brands including Jimmy Choo and Ted Baker.
The county-based company recently took the crown of men’s mainstream brand of the year 2016 at the Drapers Footwear Awards.
Held at the London Hilton, Park Lane, the fashion industry’s elite came together for a night of recognition and triumph over the sector’s achievements.
Steptronic joined the 2016 hall of fame alongside some big names in footwear, including Ted Baker, Adidas, River Island and big winner Jimmy Choo who picked up three awards on the night for women’s fashion brand of the year, best store design of the year and footwear designer of the year.
Keely Stocker, editor of Drapers, said: “These awards are a must attend event for any fashion retailers and brands working in fashion footwear to celebrate the best of the footwear industry.
“Whether you sell shoes, boots, sandals, trainers, flip-flops, wellies, court shoes, brogues, stilettos, comfort shoes, slippers, ankle boots, shoe polish or insoles, The Drapers Footwear Awards are a chance to celebrate and reward the best of the best.
“Winners should be so proud of their achievements, standing out in a highly competitive crowd.”
Steptronic was founded by footwear veteran David Corben and has reached finalist status every year since 2013.
Managing director David Corben said: “Since launching the brand in 2009 it has been my agenda to win a Drapers award, there really is no other accolade close to it in our industry and I’m so proud of what we have achieved.”
Steptronic has been described as one of the most comfortable and style conscious men’s footwear brands on the market, and Mr Corben said: “We work hard to ensure that our designs remain on trend and are produced using only the finest materials to achieve the superior comfort for all-day wear.
“I’ve lost count of the amount of times that I’ve said this or had loyal customers say this to me, but once you put them on, you really never want to take them off.”
Steptronic can be bought in 30 countries and at more than 3,000 High Street and online outlets, including Debenhams and Jones Bootmaker as well as hundreds of independent retailers.
And as well as scooping a Drapers award, Steptronic has just found out that it is a finalist in the Northamptonshire SME Awards for the Business of the Year.
The winners will be announced at the awards evening in October.
