A police spokesman and a headteacher have quashed rumours of an attempted abduction of two young girls in Northampton.

A letter was sent home to parents of pupils at Ecton Brook Primary School on Friday after two children were approached on Thursday, shortly after 4pm. by a man who offered them money to buy sweets.

The children informed their parents, who were nearby, and a man, in his 50s, was spoken to by police officers.

A police spokesman said the man was not arrested and he had not been charged with any offence.

Julia Kedwards, headteacher of Ecton Brook Primary School, said the children were not harmed and there was no suggestion the man was trying to abduct the pupils.
