Royal & Derngate theatre offers apprenticeships for young people to start career in creative industries

Apprentices wanting a career in creative or technical industries are being offered apprenticeships by Royal & Derngate theatre in Northampton.

The apprenticeships are for young people aged between 16 and 23 and involves working alongside experienced staff to learn new skills while studyinf for a work-based qualification. They are also being offered at The Core at Corby Cube.

There are four paid apprenticeship opportunities available, which will each last for one year. Royal & Derngate is looking for theatre technician apprentice and a theatre production assistant apprentice and The Core at Corby Cube is seeking a theatre technician apprentice and a creative projects apprentice. The theatre production aApprentice will assist in all technical aspects of show preparation, and the theatre technician apprentices will be involved with the practical provision of technical services, including the operation of lighting, sound and stage equipment. The creative projects apprentice will provide practical and administrative support for The Core’s community and youth-based project work.

The apprenticeship programme is supported by Creative Alliance, an experienced apprenticeship training provider that is passionate about providing creative opportunities for talented young people as well as supporting the growth of the sector.

The theatres secured wage subsidy grants for these apprenticeships through a creative employment programme. They applied as part of a consortium for the East Midlands region supported by The Mighty Creatives, the children and young people’s creative development agency.

This is part of our ongoing commitment to support people at all stages of their development within the creative industries.”

The closing date for applications for the apprenticeships at The Core is Thursday March 17 and for Royal & Derngate it is Friday March 18. Applications should be submitted to the National Apprentice Service.
