A road in Northampton where a large section of the road surface has collapsed is likely to remain closed until at least next week, an Anglian Water spokesman said.

Police closed off a section of Earl Street in the The Mounts on Thursday at 2.15pm after the road started to subside.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident but six properties in Earl Street were left with no water supply.

The Anglian Water spokesman said the cause of the road collapse could be due to soil being washed away due to a water leak.

He said: “The road is likely to be closed until at least next week as it will require extensive work to fix the road.”
