New pavements have been laid on the stretch of the road between Hazelwood Road and Castilian Street. But the new road surface between the two junctions will not go down until the completion of phase two, so for a few months the old road surface will remain.

Councillor Tim Hadland, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and planning said: “We have tried to minimise the impact on businesses while the work has been ongoing.

“It has been business as usual down St Giles Street and I am delighted that the first phase is due to be completed ahead of schedule.

“I would like to thank the businesses directly affected by the works for their patience and understanding during this period.”

Proposals to introduce two-hour free parking in St Giles Street have been submitted to Northamptonshire County Council and are under consideration.

Phase two of the St Giles Street improvement works – the section of the street between Castilian Street and St Giles Square – is due to start in May, with completion in July.
