The German-based shoe retailer Deichmann is combining two adjoining units to create 5,590 sq ft of space, the owners of the Grosvenor Centre have announced.

A spokesman for the Grosvenor Centre said: “This exciting newly refurbished and extended store will provide a strong attraction on the first floor of the Grosvenor to complement Primark, almost doubling the size of Deichmann’s existing space.

“The expansion will allow the brand to enhance and increase its product ranges for the shoppers of Northampton and will provide a modern retail environment.”

Legal & General Property will start work to create the new store in early July. Deichmann will continue to trade during the works and with the new enlarged store scheduled to open in mid-October.

James Whitehill, senior fund manager at Legal & General Property, said: “We are delighted to be able to work with Deichmann to deliver an exciting new store for the shoppers of Northampton.

“We are committed to listening to the needs of our retailers and their customers and are pleased to be able to accommodate their requirements.

“The new store will further enhance the first floor of the Grosvenor Centre, following the refurbishment of the shopping centre which we completed in 2015, bringing Deichmann’s latest store design to Northampton, and signifying strong retailer confidence in the centre,” he added.
