A seven-month £6.8 million roadworks project on a busy Northampton roundabout that has caused long delays for motorists has been completed.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire County Council said work finished on the St Peters way roundabout yesterday (Thursday).

The roadworks, which have involved widening the lanes of the roundabout and improving the traffic light system, started in September last year.

A similar roadworks project to widen sections of Round Spinney roundabout is scheduled to finish at the end of April.

Councillor Michael Clarke, county council cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, said: “We’ve worked very hard to secure funding for the various highways projects we need to take place around the town to help unlock economic growth and to enhance the town centre.

“We’re aware that large schemes in busy town centres can be very disruptive and we’ve introduced a number of measures to try and mitigate this.”
