Racing driver airlifted to hospital after crash at Northamptonshire race track

A racing driver injured in a high-speed accident in Northamptonshire was airlifted to hospital over the weekend.

A statement by Magpas airmbulance said medics were called to the Santa Pod raceway near Wellingborough at 12.54pm on Saturday.

“Magpas Doctor Leigh Bissett and Paramedic Ollie Robinson landed near Wellingborough, via the Magpas air ambulance, to treat a racing driver injured in a high speed collision.

“The Magpas medical team assessed the man (in his 50s), who had sustained serious chest and abdominal injuries.

“The patient was given pain relief and IV fluids before being flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He was in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

“The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Chief Pilot Richard Eastwood and Crewmember Steve Hunwicks,” the statement said.

No further information is available regarding the racing driver’s condition.
