A public meeting is being held tonight for people to “make their voice heard” about plans to re-open part of Abington Street to traffic.

The meeting has been organised by Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors, and will be held at the Guildhall from 6pm.

Northampton Borough Council has pledged to spend £3 million of taxpayer’s money on the scheme, and work is due to start in the spring.

The move will see the section of the street between St Giles Terrace and Wellington Street re-opened, in a move the council says will increase visitor numbers to that part of the town centre.

Opposition politicians have heavily criticised the plans, as have Chron readers, but businesses in Abington Street have been broadly supportive.
