A Northampton pub will be turned into a children’s nursery after plans were approved by Northampton Borough Council.

Blackthorn Good Neighbours was granted a 25-year lease to convert the building and plans to make the modifications were approved by members of the borough council’s planning committee on Tuesday night.

BGN says the new nursery will help relieve the shortfall in nursery places in the east of Northampton.

The approval was given despite protests from residents who came up with a 135-name petition arguing that the pub was an intergral part of the community.

Ahead of the meeting, an Enterprise Inn spokesman said: “After careful consideration and a review of all options, the decision has been made to lease the property for non-pub use which will secure its future as an important community asset for local residents.”
