A type of neighbourhood watch scheme is being launched to tackle problems at Daventry Country Park and on Borough Hill.
People are being encouraged to joined the group in a bid to stamp out anti-social behaviour at the two parks.
Daventry Park Watch has been launched in response to a number of issues reported at the parks, including young people starting fires and riding motorcycles in the wooded area of Borough Hill, and vandalism and anti-social behaviour at Daventry Country Park.
The scheme aims to build a network of people who can work together to keep our town’s parks and open spaces safe and enjoyable, by reporting any crimes, anti-social behaviour or suspicious activity they witness.
Those who join will be sent regular updates on any issues identified in the parks as well as news of upcoming events and activities.
Park Watch will bring together Daventry District Council, Northamptonshire Police, The Friends of Daventry Country Park, the park’s Reservoir Café and the Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Community Safety Partnership.
The safety partnership promoted the scheme during a day of action on Monday focusing on Borough Hill and Daventry Country Park.
Leaflets promoting the scheme, as well as giving advice on the dangers of starting fires and riding motorcycles in parks without permission, were handed out to residents living near the parks. Volunteers from McDonalds in Daventry carried out a litter pick of Borough Hill, with nine sackfuls of rubbish being collected.
Cllr Alan Hills, vice chairman of the partnership and community culture and leisure portfolio holder on DDC, said: “Daventry Country Park and Borough Hill are both fantastic leisure facilities enjoyed by thousands of people each year.
“We don’t want the small number of anti-social incidents committed by the few to spoil these areas for the rest of our community.
“The Daventry Park Watch scheme aims to involve local people to help keep these areas safe for everyone to enjoy and I would urge anyone interested in playing a part in this new scheme to contact us to find out more.”
