A post office in Northampton is set to close with postal services being moved to a nearby food store

The Highlands post office in Coppice Drive, Parklands, is to move to the Tesco express store in the same road.

The planned relocation is part of the Post Office Local scheme, aimed at delivering postal services from tills within shops and supermarkets rather than at separate post offices.

The move is due to take place in July or August this year, and would result in extended opening hours with the tills being open from 6am to 11pm Monday to Sunday, an increase of 73 hours a week.

Will Russell, Post Office regional manager, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Northampton and we are confident that this new modern will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.”

Customers are being invited to give their feedback on the proposed move in a consultation running until may 27.
