A pub is set to reopen in the building once occupied by the Pennywhistle in Northampton, though most of the former nightspot is to become a bookies’.
Equity Real Estate has submitted plans to redesign the front of the former Scream brand pub on Abington Square, which ceased trading in September, 2014.
The application is part of a series, the developer says, to “seek the redevelopment of the site for residential use,” on the first floor of the 1960s building while retaining the pub at ground floor level.
Though this particular planning application concentrates on just the shop frontages, last month the developers were also granted permission to turn almost two thirds of the once bustling nightspot into a Paddy Power betting shop.
It is understood the pub will retain its Pennywhistle name, though it is not known when it will reopen.
The proposed shop front and signage of the venue has been “designed to complement the proposals put forward by bookmakers Paddy Power,” according to a statement supplied to the council by agents APC Planning which also states the plans “will be a high quality and cohesive development that enhances the appearance of the area.”
