Popular arts festival to return to Kettering next week

The arts festival, which takes place on July 1, 2 and 3 this year, sees more than 50 events take place across the borough.

This year’s entertainment opens up with a home-made craft and food fair at the Corn Market Hall from 8.30am to 11.30am on Friday, July 1.

Friday also sees the opening of the KettFest Beer Festival at The Three Cocks, which is taking place all weekend.

There will also be music in Kino Lounge from 6pm, with The Yards hosting a northern soul night from 8pm to 2am.

Saturday’s line-up will be complemented by free parking all day in Kettering Council car parks.

Latimer Arts College will be hosting a free Rio Carnival workshop from 9am to midday, with the Manor House Museum opening for its I Love Music memorabilia exhibition from 10am to 4pm.

The Parish Hall is holding a record fair from 10am to 5pm, with a host of different events taking place in the Market Place all day.

Vintage stalls will be at the Blitz Tea Rooms from 2pm, with a big screen and secret film in the Market Place from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Saturday evening sees live music at The Prince of Wales, The Peacock and Kettering Arts Centre, with local band Thee Telepaths among those appearing.

Sunday sees a Time Travellers Exhibition hosted by Kettering Civic Society at Kettering Train Station, with a tea party and gardening at Green Patch.

The Piper will be serving KettFest sausages and burgers from 6pm to 10pm, with The Market Inn and The Alexandra Arms bringing the festival to a close with family and acoustic jams.

One of the organisers of the event is Jo Selby-Green and she says it brings the community together.

She said: “It has been emphasised that nothing like this happens in Kettering and that encouraged us all last year when KettFest was mentioned in the Houses of Parliament - the importance of such an art’s festival, bringing the community together.

“Locals are talking about it and unusual links have been developed to celebrate and decorate the town.

“This really is such an exciting and special personal event and we are so proud of the animal that it is.”
