Leader of Northamptonshire County Council says it will be '˜business as usual' after Brexit vote

The leader of Northamptonshire County Council has issued an appeal for calm after the EU Leave vote and stated it will be 'business as usual' for the local authority.

In a message sent out to staff today Councillor Heather Smith said the county council’s role was to help deliver the best possible future for the people of Northamptonshire after Brexit.

She said: “It is critical that as community leaders and public servants we act in a professional and calming manner for the people we serve and to reduce any anxieties.

“In particular I think it is essential that we articulate facts and support people to understand what the real truths are and what they are still eligible for or not, be that a school place or a library card.

“Quite frankly the vast majority of what we do will remain unchanged in terms of the legislation in which we work.”

“Therefore it is truly ‘business as usual’ in protecting the vulnerable, safeguarding our communities and enhancing the wellbeing of the people of the county. We all have important work to get on with to make our great county even better.”
