Police name 17-year-old murder victim and a second person has now been arrested

The victim of a fatal attack in St George's Street has been named as 17-year-old Liam Hunt from Northampton.

A second arrest, a 15-year-old boy, has also now been made in connection with the investigation.

The 17-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning remains in custody.

A murder investigation was launched last night because of yesterday's incident.

Detective Inspector Phil Mills, leading the investigation, said: “This happened in a residential area (St George’s St) at 5pm when people may have been coming home from work. Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or seen people acting suspiciously in the area to come forward.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police on 101 or provide information confidentially via Crimestoppers.

“Cases like this are very rare and I would like to reassure the communities of Northamptonshire that investigators are working tirelessly on this case.”

McDonalds at the Drapery, which had been closed as part of the investigation, is now open but Aldbury Court still remains cordoned off.

Officers from the East Midlands Major Crime team are leading the investigation.
