Officers in Northamptonshire are warning residents to be mindful of so-called ‘Nottingham Knockers’ scamsters working in the area.

Yesterday, PCSOs from the ‘futures’ team were patrolling in Woodnewton, in East Northants, and came across a man door-step selling in the village. A fake pedlars licence and various property were subsequently confiscated.

Inspector Julie Mead said: “Wherever you live, please be aware of this and don’t be tempted to buy from the doorstep or feel pressured by salespeople offering supposedly one-off ‘buy it now’ low prices.”

The conmen, nicknamed Nottingham Knockers by police, often pretend to be reformed convicts trying to turn their lives around.

Insp Mead said: “Also, please keep a look out for any suspicious activity and keep an eye on neighbours properties if they’re away over Christmas, as these groups may be using the excuse of door-to-door selling to get a closer look, with a view to identifying properties to burgle.

“If you’re suspicious of any salesperson that calls at your house, please call 101 to report it and help us keep track of where these groups are operating.”
