A park in Northampton has been cordoned off by police investigating a serious sexual assault.

A number of officers have been deployed to Miller’s Meadow in Semilong where part of the park has been taped off.

Northamptonshire Police have now confirmed they are investigating a serious sexual assault at the park just off Spencer Bridge Road and St Andrew’s Road.

They believe that it is an ‘isolated incident’ and anyone with concerns should contact police.

Officers were called to the park, which runs alongside the River Nene, at around 5am today (Thursday) soon after the incident took place.

The park has been cordoned off to enable police to carry out their investigations.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “The incident under investigation is a serious sexual assault.

“Police are looking for a man in connection with the incident. He is described as white, about 6ft tall with a slim build. If anyone saw a man fitting this description in the area in the early hours of this morning they are asked to contact police.

“Officers believe this is an isolated incident and ask people in the area who may have information or concerns to contact police.”

Anyone with any information can call Northamptonshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
