Police have extended the custody of the man arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a Northampton woman.
The 51-year-old, from Stanley Road, St James, was detained by police at 7pm yesterday and police initially had 24 hours to charge or release him.
However, with particularly serious crimes they can apply to extend that time, initially to 36 hours and up to 96 hours if necessary.
Meanwhile, detectives are waiting for the results of the postmortem, which may hold important evidence. Officers hope the results may be available by the end of today (Monday).
