Several drivers called police in Northampton this morning after having swerving to avoid hitting a couple of swans on the loose.
Police started receiving calls at around 7.40am this morning from members of the public saying that there were two swans in Wellingborough Road.
A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: “We had reports saying that they were running from one side of the road to the other.
“Drivers were having to swerve to avoid them and thought they would cause an accident.”
Officers from Weston Favell attended the incident.
A spokesman added: “PC Stuart Howkins rescued one of the swans and herded it to safety, but it wouldn’t stay off the road. So he put it in the back of the police car and took it to a nearby lake.”
