The wanted man had failed to attend Northampton Magistrates' Court and a warrant had therefore been issued for his arrest.

Northampton Proactive Team, a selection of police officers who specialise in arresting suspected dangerous felons and drug dealers, tracked him down to a property in St James - and found he was hiding in a cupboard, guarded by another man.

The shoplifter was then arrested and brought before magistrates. He was subsequently charged with stealing meat and perfume in order to fund drug deals.

Police said the man who hid him was 'apologetic' and was let off with a warning.
